Wednesday's tragic crash of a Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 Airplane leaving the Iranian capital Tehran, has left many seeking answers to exactly what went wrong. There's the belief that the plane was mistakenly downed by Iran, but the Iranian authorities have a different narrative on what they believe, likely happened before the plane went down.

A report by CNN claimed the popular belief by both European and US authorities, is that Iran somehow mistook the plane to for something they consider a threat, and struck it down.

Adding credence to the possibility of an error on the part of Iran, is the timing of the crash, which took place hours after Iran's retaliation.

But the head of Iran's Civil Aviation Authority is not buying western narratives about the crash. Ali Abedzadeh while speaking with CNN said the plane would have fallen freely if truly it was hit by a rocket.

He asked, "How can a plane be hit by rocket or missile" and then the pilot "try to turn back to the airport?"

President Donald Trump also shares the belief that the downing of the Ukrainian plane is most likely due to an error on the part of Iran.

"I don't want to say that because other people have their suspicions," Trump said, but added, "Somebody could have made a mistake on the other side ... not our system. It has nothing to do with us."

"It was flying in a pretty rough neighborhood. They could've made a mistake. Some people say it was mechanical. I personally don't think that's even a question."

Asked if he thought it was downed by accident, Trump said, "I don't know. I really don't know ... that's up to them. At some point they'll release the black box."

"Ideally they'd give it to Boeing," he said, but said giving it to France or "some other country" would be fine, too.

"Something very terrible happened, very devastating," he concluded.
