Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has said that former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had thought he could control him like a puppet simply because he played a role in hue emergence as governor of the State.

Obaseki said his refusal to allow Oshiomhole have his way, eventually turned him into a frustrated man who now sees the governor as an enemy.

The disclosure was made in a statement yesterday, through Obaseki's Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie in apparent reaction to Oshiomhole’s statement calling him a “snake” over the weekend.

Obaseki said that his predecessor wanted to rule the state a third time with him as proxy and trouble started when he refused to be used to plunder Edo state.

He added that Oshiomhole’s words were the vituperations of a frustrated man.

Osagie’s statement read, “In 2016 when Oshiomhole nominated and supported Obaseki, his hidden motive was to use Governor Obaseki, who he thought would be a pawn in his game to defraud Edo people and enthrone himself as the ultimate godfather of Edo politics at the expense of the will and wishes of Edo people.

"However, Obaseki’s refusal to mortgage the interest of the majority of Edo people for the satisfaction of Oshiomhole and his handful of greedy followers is the cause of Oshiomhole’s bitterness which has led him to bury himself in pursuit of an innocent governor who is trying to do the right thing for his people.”

Oshiomhole had said he was warned against bringing Obaseki as his successor, but refused to listen.

However, while apologizing for his error, he said Obaseki is a complete failure, and would do all it takes to make ammends by ensuring the victory of Pastor Ize-Iyamu in the September 19 governorship election in the State.
