JUST IN: Supreme Court dismisses PDP’s suit against Shettima's double nomination

The Supreme Court has dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The five-member panel of the Supreme Court, in its ruling on Friday, determined that the PDP lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to institute the suit. The panel pointed out that the PDP is not a member of the APC.

The PDP had alleged that Shettima's nomination as Tinubu's running mate violated the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022. The opposition party argued that Shettima's simultaneous nomination for the vice-presidential position and the Borno Central senatorial seat went against the law.

However, the Supreme Court's panel rejected these arguments and dismissed the suit.
